Breastfeeding
Support- In partnership with the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program at

Toe River Regional Children's Dental Clinic- Located at
the Spruce Pine Community
Hospital, this
organization accepts children from the ages of birth to 18 enrolled in Medicade
and North Carolina Health Choice. Hours of operation are Monday-Thursday

Safety -Car seat and bike helmet distribution programs and educational safety
programming for preschoolers and their families.

- 3-D Smart Art-An art class for children with activities include
arts, crafts and projects that go beyond one dimensional artwork and leave
the page! Classes are at Avery County Smart Start: A Partnership for
Children on Tuesday morning from 10:00-11:00. For more information

- Mary's Starry Art-An art class for children using a variety of
mediums including, paint, clay, cutting and pasting and many other
materials that maximize creativity and learning for young artists. Classes
are at Mona's Starlight Cyber Cafe in Banner Elk on Wednesday morning from

- Tuesday Tunes-A music class where children have the opportunity to
sing, dance and play musical instruments. Classes are at Avery
Morrison Library Tuesday mornings from 11:30-12. For more

- Kindersports-A sports program offered with Avery County
Parks and Recreation
Department where children can practice the basics of sports. This is
a five week program offered at different times during the year. The
current program is Tuesday evening from 5:30-6:30 at The Rock Gym in
Newland from September 26-October 24 2006. For more information

- Love & Logic Parenting Classes-For more information about
parenting classes contact Tres Magner at tres_magner@ncsu.edu. The next
program for Love and Logic: The toddler Years is at Newland First Baptist
on Thursdays from October 12 until November 9 from 10:00-12:00
- Hispanic Women's Support Group-A support group and English as
Second Language Classes to Hispanic Women in Avery County. Also
provides childcare for those with children attending the program.
Offered on Monday's from 10:00-1:00 from October through May. For

- Parent to Parent-Foster Parent recruitment and support as well as
resources and referrals for families of children with special needs.

Family Education Center- Even Start: adult, parent and preschool education for families with
preschoolers and one or more parents without a high school education
